March 3rd at the Southwest Complex in Lakeland
Lakeland won two of the three games in the first week of sixth annual competition.
The Lakeland Win-Again team, managed by Regis Finnegan, defeated the Al Andrews Winter Haven Maine Men squad by a whopping score of 24-2. One of the Winter Haven players was safe at first on a questionable call in the top of the ninth, allowing the inning to continue. Had the call gone the other way, Lakeland would have shut out the Winter Haven guys. Ouch!
The Lakeland Kings, managed by Russ King, went down in defeat to the Bob Zelazny Winter Haven Zzzzzzz’s, in a close scoring game.
The Lakeland 70s team defeated the Ed Kline Winter Haven ReKliners team twenty something to single digits. Yikes!
The score sheets were not retained for proper reporting of the first week of play, with the exception of the Regis Finnegan team.
Ben Bane went 4 for 4, Matt Matson went 4 for 5 with a triple, and Larry Sweet went 4 for 5 with a double.
Ron Salyer and Gary Timbes hit home runs over the fence for Lakeland.
Pizza and pop were available afterwards as the players joined in on some game rehashing, along with a bit of friendly boasting. A good time was had by all.

The Winter Haven ReKliners defeated the Lakeland 70s team 19-12. That gave each 70s team a win and a loss in the two day matchup.
